How to get to the Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful regions in Italy, but getting here is not always simple. Below you’ll find all useful information – from the nearest airports to car rental and ferry tickets.
Useful Links for Planning
Search flights on Skyscanner – look for flights to Naples (NAP), Rome (FCO/CIA), Salerno (QSR).
Car rental on RentalCars and DiscoverCars – compare prices on both websites for the best deal.
Train tickets in Italy – check routes to Naples, Salerno, Sorrento, or Vietri sul Mare.
Ferries and boats on Direct Ferries or Ferryhopper – tickets between coastal towns and from Naples.
Where to Fly – Nearest Airports
The nearest major airport is Naples (NAP). You can also fly to Rome (FCO or CIA) and continue by train or rental car. Since 2024, Salerno Airport (QSR) is also open – even closer to the coast.
Use Skyscanner to search for flights.
How to Get There by Train
You can take high-speed trains to Naples, Salerno, and Vietri sul Mare. To Sorrento, take the Circumvesuviana local train from Naples station. There are no trains between the towns on the Amalfi Coast – use buses, ferries, or a car to get around.
Check tickets and schedules on this website.
Car Rental
If you want more flexibility, rent a car in Naples, Rome, or Salerno. Keep in mind that parking on the coast is limited and expensive.
Check prices on both RentalCars and DiscoverCars – prices may vary.
How to Get There by Ferry
In summer, travelling along the coast by sea is very convenient – ferries run between Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Salerno, and Capri Island.
Tickets and schedules are available on Direct Ferries and Ferryhopper.
Tips
- In high season, book everything in advance: tickets, accommodation, car rental, and tours.
- If you plan to drive, check parking availability at each hotel.
- Ferries are scenic but not always the cheapest way to travel.
