Where to stay on the Amalfi Coast
If you have enough days, it’s better to split your holiday into two parts: first stay on the eastern side of the coast (for example, in Maiori or Salerno), and then on the western side (for example, in Positano or Sorrento). This way you can see more and spend less time travelling.
If you plan to visit Capri Island, you can stay there for 2–4 days. In addition, from Sorrento it’s easy to take day trips to nearby towns: Rome, Pompeii and Vesuvius, Naples, and more.
The map below shows towns where you can stay. Green marks the cheapest places, yellow – mid-range prices, red – the most expensive. Click on a town to see accommodation options.
Stay in the Heart of the Amalfi Coast
Positano and Amalfi are the most scenic, famous, and expensive towns on the coast. This is where you feel the atmosphere you see on postcards and in movies: houses on cliffs, staircases, and stunning sea views. The downsides are large tourist crowds and high accommodation prices. But if you want real emotions and beautiful memories, stay here for at least 1–2 nights.
Stay in Sorrento
Sorrento is very close to the Amalfi Coast and perfect for exploring the region. There are many hotels, the best transport connections, and prices are lower than in Positano. From here it’s easy to reach Positano, Naples, Capri, Pompeii, and other popular places.
Stay in Minori and Maiori
Minori and Maiori are neighbouring villages, perfect for those looking for comfort, the sea, and affordable prices. There are nice beaches, good restaurants, and only 10–15 minutes to Amalfi by ferry or bus. This is a great balance between price and comfort.
Stay in Agerola
Agerola is a mountain commune made up of several villages. This is where the Path of the Gods starts. If you travel by car or are looking for peace, low prices, and fresh air, this is a great option. You can reach Amalfi by bus in about 40 minutes.
Stay in Praiano
Praiano is located between Positano and Amalfi. It’s a quiet place with beautiful views and secluded beaches. Hotels are cheaper here than in Positano, but the experience is just as special.
Stay in Salerno
Salerno is a large city on the eastern side of the coast. It’s a good choice for those looking for affordability and convenience: great transport connections make it easy to reach Maiori, Minori, Amalfi, and also Paestum. Hotel prices here are among the lowest in the region.
