Vietri sul Mare
Vietri sul Mare is the easternmost village on the Amalfi Coast, located near Salerno (15 minutes by bus). From Amalfi, you can reach it by bus in about 1 hour. The town is famous for its colourful ceramics, bright facades, and wide beaches.
The town is built on a hillside, and walking around means streets, staircases, and panoramic viewpoints. Below you’ll find the promenade and beach; higher up is the historic centre, workshops, and many ceramic shops.

How to Get to Vietri sul Mare
Vietri is easy to reach from Salerno – by bus, car, or train. The bus stop is in the town centre, near the church. The Vietri sul Mare-Amalfi train station is at the bottom of the town, from where you can walk or take a taxi.
If you travel by car, keep in mind that the roads are narrow and parking is limited. It’s better to use paid parking near the train station or beach, or leave your car in Salerno.

Church of San Giovanni Battista (Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista) – the symbol of Vietri, with its dome covered in colourful majolica tiles.
Ceramics Museum (Museo della Ceramica) – located in a historic villa. You can walk there in about 30 minutes or take a bus in 5 minutes. Inside you’ll find both historic and modern ceramics. Vietri is considered the world capital of ceramics.
The colourful houses of Vietri – especially the many blue-painted buildings – create a bright and photogenic contrast with the greenery and the sea.
Beaches in Vietri sul Mare
Vietri has the largest beaches on the whole coast. The beaches are a mix of sand and pebbles, wide, with both paid areas and free zones. Thanks to its location near Salerno, the A3 highway, and the train station, Vietri is especially popular in summer with families and children.
What to Visit Near Vietri sul Mare
Between Amalfi and Vietri there are two small villages easily reachable by bus:
Cetara – the main fishing village on the coast. Tourists come here to enjoy fresh seafood dishes. It’s a very authentic place, usually visited for a short stop.
Erchie – a tiny village with a beach and the Torre Cerniola tower. A perfect spot for a quiet seaside break.
